Yes, you can still see your family doctor!
You can also choose to see a Nurse Practitioner as your primary care provider as an alternative to a family Physician.
What is a Nurse Practitioner?
A Primary Care Nurse Practitioner is a Nurse with specialized education and skills that can work both independently and collaboratively in a variety of health care settings. NP’s can initiate treatments, diagnose diseases, disorders and conditions, prescribe medications and order lab tests, x-rays and other diagnostic tests within their scope of practice. NP’s provide a comprehensive approach to health care.
What kind of health-care services do nurse practitioners provide?
Do nurse practitioners replace other health-care professionals? Will I still be able to see my doctor?
NPs work in collaboration with other health-care providers. They are part of an interdisciplinary team that includes registered nurses, physicians, physiotherapists and others. While seeing an NP, you can still see your family doctor or any other health-care provider.
